Synthesis, Characterization and Anti-HIV Evaluation of Some Novel N-[2-(substitutedphenyl)-5-methyl-4-oxo-1,3-thiazolidin-3-yl]benzamides

A series of novel N-[2-(substituted phenyl)-5-methyl-4-oxo-1,3-thiazolidin-3-yl]benzamides (4a-g) were synthesized, structurally confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, H NMR and MS spectral analysis, further evaluated for their anti-HIV activity and cytotoxicity in MT-4 cells infected with wildtype HIV-1 strain IIIB and HIV-2 strain ROD in comparison with nevirapine (NVP), azidothymidine (AZT), dideoxycytidine (DDC) and dideoxyinosine (DDI), which were used as reference drugs.
